Christopher Rodriguez

On Martin Luther King Day in the South Bronx, seven year old Christopher Rodriguez stood outside his apartment building surrounded by family and neighbors, holding signs for his father. Just days earlier, Javier Rodriguez had been arrested by ICE agents who posed as New York City police officers. He was taken from his home and placed in immigration detention, facing deportation to Mexico.

What is usually a day of remembrance and speeches became something as small and personal, as a child standing in the cold for his dad. The demonstration was quiet, but the meaning was not. On a day meant to honor the fight for civil rights, a family was asking simply to stay together.

For the clearest detail and strongest finished piece, I recommend using cardstock and a cutting machine. Cardstock provides the stability needed to hold the fine lines and structure of the design.
