Norlan Guzman Fuentes
Norlan Guzman Fuentes, a thirty seven year old Salvadoran man, was killed while in federal immigration custody during a shooting at an ICE field office in Dallas. For three days, his partner, Berenice Prieto, did not know he was gone. No one from ICE or any government agency contacted her. She learned of his death only after reaching out to the Salvadoran consulate herself.
Norlan had built a quiet life in Dallas over five years. He worked mowing lawns and trimming trees, fished in his spare time, and became a father figure to Berenice’s four children. Even while detained, their messages to each other ended the same way: Te amo. I love you.
Berenice was later told he was in handcuffs when he was killed. She has been denied the chance to see him one last time before his body is returned to El Salvador in a sealed casket. Now she is left with questions about his final moments and the ache of not being able to say goodbye.
For the clearest detail and strongest finished piece, I recommend using cardstock and a cutting machine. Cardstock provides the stability needed to hold the fine lines and structure of the design.
